Section: 4. The description of the sutrah (screen) of the person offering prayer – the things that invalidate the prayer
231. Narrated from Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (RA). He said, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: When a person offers prayer and a sutrah the size of the rear wooden stick of a camel saddle is not placed before him, and a (mature) woman, a donkey, and a black dog pass in front of the worshipper, his prayer (its concentration) will be spoiled. This is a portion of a long hadith. In one place in it: the black dog is a devil.

6/952. Narrated from Abu Dharr (RA). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When there is nothing like the wooden post of a howdah in front of the worshipper,  a woman, a donkey, and a dog of black color invalidate his prayer. A sub-narrator said: I said, what is the difference between a black dog and a red dog? He said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) the same thing you have asked me. He said: The black dog is a devil.

751. Amr ibn Ali (RA) … narrated from Abu Dharr (RA). He said, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: When any of you stands up to offer prayer, he should screen himself if there is something like the leaning wood of a howdah in front of him. If there is nothing like the leaning wood of a howdah in front of him, then his prayer will be invalidated by a woman, a donkey, and a black dog. I said, what is the state of the black dog compared to the red and yellow dog? He said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) just as you have asked me. Then he said: The black dog is a devil.
